・Pestilence Family ・Elemental Type

○Habitat…unknown
○Disposition…ferocious, gloomy
○Diet…human men’s essence

Ghastly knights who appear along with the sound of a trumpet heralding demise.
Having a sickly skin color, sinister armor, and a horse, they glare at their prey with eyes shining darkly. Their very appearance, which seemingly embodies strife and turbulence, strikes primal terror into the hearts of those who face them. Their true nature is that of a monster resulting from mana binding with a “pestilence” that would have befallen mankind as a calamity. A dreadful miasma follows them about as if constantly serving at their command, causing pestilence to eat away at those exposed to it.

Each of these knights harbors her own respective pestilence, which is literally her itself. They also spread it among people. I’ll introduce some of the most well known of them.
“Plague of famine” – removes the upper limits on euphoria experienced from sex and physical contact with one’s spouse. Unlimited euphoria actually makes time spent away from one’s spouse feel unbearable like starvation. They say women with a severe case of it will want to have their husband’s manhood constantly inside them and constantly filling their womb with fresh semen.
“Plague of the berserker” - one’s spouse’s presence starts to feel terribly arousing to oneself. In severe cases, every little thing one’s spouse does will fan the flames of carnal desire. When both husband and wife are afflicted, eventually, they will come to ravish and violate one another whenever they get a chance day after day.
“Plague of gluttony” – organs all over the entire body gradually convert into essence absorbing organs.
In the case of women, they become able to tease their husband’s penis with all sorts of body parts and
will experience ecstasy from having their whole body showered in semen. On the other hand,
since the husband’s entire body changes so that his organs have no resistance to absorbing his wife’s mana, he’ll easily shoot out essence and become prey for satisfying his wife’s gluttony.

They’re driven mad by their own pestilence, so they become fixated on men who strike their fancy as prey, and keep expressing their love to such an obsessive degree that it’s sick.
What’s more, they have the same nature and traits as the symptoms that occur in the afflicted.
Due to that, they often fly into a fit and attack men. In most cases, a Pale Rider who’s determined her prey will suddenly steal a man’s lips as he trembles in fear, wrapping tongues and swapping spit in a deep kiss. The breath spilling from her lips is also miasma that contains concentrated high density pestilence. When a man’s body is filled with miasma on the inside from this passionate and persistent vow-sealing kiss, his whole body will instantly be stricken with the plague. They say that since they were originally a pestilence, they experience an insane degree of pleasure and ecstasy from spreading the plague that is the Pale Rider herself throughout the body of their beloved and eating away at it,
and intensive mutual mucous membrane contact, namely sex, will cause the symptoms to progress remarkably. They’ll seek to progress the disease eating away at their husband’s body through frequent and lengthy intercourse. Also, they have a peculiar mentality of terribly hating it when their husband comes down with another disease besides their own. As if to embody that mentality, by nature, whenever their plague violates prey, they take in all other diseases, and in that case, any diseases that were originally afflicting the man will be completely cured, while the plague they cause tends to increase in severity.

Furthermore, as mentioned before, since each pale rider is a pestilence itself, the diseases caused are unique and differ on an individual basis. This means not only that no two individuals have the same pestilence, but also that throughout the world, the same pestilence doesn’t exist except for that particular individual. Once there was a plague that caused the body to turn black as symptoms worsened, resulting in an agonizing death, but it disappeared from the world with the appearance of a certain individual Pale Rider. In other words, the original diseases are eradicated as a result of monsterization, so the birth of a new Pale Rider means that another disease has vanished from the world.

Pale Rider's Biblical Reference

Post by halcyonIllaster »

The mamono seems to be reference the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse from the Book of Revelations. But I'm assuming this Pale Rider is referencing one of them (probably Death) but I cannot be sure.

Here are the verses of each rider from the New Revised Standard Edition of the Bible (which is used for academic purposes).

Conquest (Sometimes called Pestilence): Revelation 6:2
I looked, and there was a white horse! Its rider had a bow; a crown was given to him, and he came out conquering and to conquer.
War: Revelation 6:4
And out came another horse, bright red; its rider was permitted to take peace from the earth, so that people would slaughter one another; and he was given a great sword.
Plague of the Berserker seems to fit this rider.

Famine: Revelation 6:5-6
When he opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature call out, "Come!" I looked, and there was a black horse! Its rider held a pair of scales in his hand, and I heard what seemed to be a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a day’s pay and three quarts of barley for a day’s pay, but do not damage the olive oil and the wine!”
Plague of Famine obviously fits this rider.

Death: Revelation 6:8
I looked and there was a pale green horse! Its rider's name was Death, and Hades followed with him; they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, famine, and pestilence, and by the wild animals of the earth.
Plague of Gluttony doesn't seem to fit any of the four horsemen.

I agree it is a bit harder to find how the plague or gluttony fits with the four horsemen both the originals and modern versions. The best I can guess is the plague of gluttony is conquest which both fits the idea of wanting to obtain more and the idea it is associated with animals since they can be very driven by a desire for food even when a famine is not happening.

So it looks like we're going to get the Revelation theme mamono (or Megaten's Fiends). What surprised me is that she's an elemental instead of an angel. Also, the Pale Rider is Death in Revelation, so I guess KC either shuffle their roles, or merge them into one race.

Now that I look back at the information and the Biblical reference, I think it is the latter.

If KC is going to do Revelation themed Mamono, there can be a number of potential beings and things to make. Two that I can think of are Wyrmwood and the Locusts.

Wormwood is already in the Salpinx entry as a specific event and not as an individual monster:
Spoiler
A certain lake that was a major water source that flows to many towns and villages was contaminated when a gigantic mass from the sky dropped into it, and dissolved into the water. There was an epidemic outbreak of a strange fever among women who drank water coming from that source. Those who fell victim to the illness would feverishly engage in coitus with men, and the men they lied with were transformed into grotesque, horrific non-human forms, while the women themselves also transformed into monstrous beauties. The monstrous couples came to live while constantly joined as one, and the people ultimately ended up as abyssal horrors.
The mass that fell from the sky mentioned in the profile was originally something that would have turned the water bitter and caused a fever and death, their bodies turning white like burnt ash. Due to the salpinx's powers, the mass was replaced with a different mass that originated from the abyssal monsters. To some extent what form the disaster they transform takes is determined by what the disaster originally was going to be as well as the scale of the original disaster, and the salpinx has no willful control over it. In fact, should the result be large-scale monsterization they may look surprised or somewhat apologetic (though also aroused at the sights). (source: Personal communication with KC)
Regarding the event from the salpinx profile where a massive object contaminated a water source, the aftermath of this included people transforming into abyssal monsters that no humans had seen before. However, these were not new races. All abyssal monster races came into existence during the ancient age when the abyssals flourished. However, because they were sealed away many of these races became forgotten about by humanity, leading to various claims of "new" abyssal races being discovered. (source: Subscribestar reply)
Although he has mentioned Abaddon on Twitter years ago:
Spoiler

I want to someday introduce a monster girl who swarms over an entire village, leaving only the men who are already partnered... I’d love to feature a locust-like monster girl like that. For some reason, motifs of harmful insects, like G-san (cockroach), strangely have a certain erotic appeal.

Since the original reference is something huge, if it's Abaddon, it would really give off a sense of overwhelming presence! It feels like a swarm of Abaddons showing up could be treated as a sign of an impending transformation into a mamono realm, haha.

It's one of these mamono who would likely be more interesting on a case-by-case basis. The sole concept is downright fascinating though, that's for sure.

Well Kenkou has confirmed that these three plagues are themed after the other Horsemen so it is unlikely we will see more riders. Still this has me wondering since all of the original horsemen are represented conquest, war, famine, and death being pestilence I wonder if there is another plague that represents the modern horsemen of death who isn’t the one who represents plague. Like there being Pale Riders representing plague of undeath where they make undead. Also I am wondering if somebody would make a plague just so it can become a Pale Rider who would become his wife since it would be possible to make a disastrous plague without being evil or wanting anybody to get hurt.

Odd, I thought Conquest was pestilence.

That is the modern idea. Actually when it was first mentioned how the horsemen would affect the earth it is said they would “kill with sword, famine, and pestilence, and by the wild animals of the earth”, another version said “kill with sword, famine, and death, and by the wild beasts of the earth”. So you can see what death was meant to represent and what conquest actually involved. Which makes more sense compared to the modern version since except for death the other three are causes of death while the original version all four of them were causes of death.
